WHO CAN APPLY?
All national and international researchers, start-ups and entrepreneurs that are integrated in the INCM Innovation Network.
Membership in the INCM Innovation Network is done online by filling out the form and free of any cost. All public or private entities wishing to work closely in the development of R&D projects and innovative solutions can apply.
The IN3+ Award aims to select and reward ideas that enable the creation of innovative solutions, and that can integrate the activities associated with INCM’s corporate purpose.
The ideas presented will be evaluated by the Competition Jury, with the finalist ideas being publicly presented by the candidates.
The winning projects will be awarded a global prize of 1 Million Euros, distributed in the following order, according to the place reached after the evaluation by the jury:
up to € 600,000
up to € 250,000
up to € 150,000
In addition to these values attributed to the projects to support their development, 2% of the amount will be destined to directly reward the proponents of the ideas.
WHICH ARE THE PROJECT SELECTION CATEGORIES?
To apply for the IN3+ Award, your idea or projects must fit in at least one of the following areas:
NEW ELEMENTS OR SAFETY TECHNOLOGIES:
Physical or logical supports that guarantee the authentication, certification, tracking and validation of people, acts, goods and documents.
INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGIES:
Operating systems, processing, storage and transmission of data and their respective software and mobile applications via digital transformation.
NEW PRODUCTS AND SERVICES:
Introducing new concepts, functionalities, technology or a new combination of new knowledge and existing technology, transforming the current state of the art industry and knowledge.
OPTIMIZATION AND IMPROVEMENT OF PRODUCTIVE PROCESSES:
a) New technologies or new materials;
b) Flexible, reconfigurable, intelligent, adaptive, network collaborative and mass customized production systems;
c) Energy efficiency and minimization of environmental impacts.
NEW BUSINESS MODELS AND DIGITAL COMMUNICATION:
Related to the incorporation of new technologies leading to business digitalization and creation of new business models and platforms.
“Secret Paper – An Innovative and Low Cost Approach” was the winning idea of the IN3+ Award, developed by the team coordinated by researchers Elvira Fortunato and Rodrigo Martins, from NOVA School of Science and Technology. This project currently has its own brand – ALMASCIENCE, Beyond Paper – and with several initiatives underway in the health, marketing and sustainability sectors.
Second place was awarded to the idea “Coinage of Total or Partly Transparent Coins” from the Institute of Mechanical Engineering of the Instituto Superior Técnico and an honorable mention to the idea “Decrease in Bacterial Colonization in Metallic Currency”, presented by a team of researchers composed of Telmo Santos, from NOVA School of Science and Technology, Carla Carvalho, from the Institute of Bioengineering and Biosciences of the Instituto Superior Técnico, and Maria José Carvalho, from the Center for Ecology, Evolution and Environmental Alterations, Faculty of Sciences, University of Lisbon.
“ATLAS – Autonomous Transport for Logistic Automatic System ”was the winning idea of the IN3+ Award, which proposed the creation of a system based on collaborative robotics and industry 4.0. Developed in partnership with the UNINOVA Research Center, NOVA School of Science and Technology, it aims at improving internal logistics and issuing Portuguese citizen cards and electronic passports.
The ideas that won the 2nd and 3rd place were, respectively, “Manufacture of Commemorative Coins through Additive Technologies”, presented by a team of researchers from the Institute of Mechanical Engineering of the Instituto Superior Técnico, and “BlockCarPollution – use of Public and Shared Transports using Blockchain ”, presented by elements from the University of Aveiro and the company Ubiwhere.
